Hi kids,
I'm a '54 model so I'm old. Haven't bought the floater yet, but I suspect craigslist will do me well in terms of finding good, pre-owned gear.
Hope to have a Cumberland tube and a Minn Kota motor for next season. I'm a strictly fresh-water guy, ocean fishing, honestly, bores the s-t out of me. Went on a boat out of San Diego and all we caught were Mackerel. Vile fish. Stinks.
The small reservoirs scattered throughout Nevada harbor the wily trout species I love to fish. I've fished Eagle Lake, CA, back in my flying days. Even caught a limit in 2003. All we used were worms on a hook, leave the bail open and let them sink. if the line starts zinging off the line, I know FISH ON!!!
Also fished Moose Creek, ID, which is only accessible by hiking, horses or airplanes. Western Cutts for supper.
I'm not a fly fisher. Never could get the hang, but I mostly use a four-foot Daiwa ultralight rod and a vintage '83 Daiwa 700C. I use 15# braid on this booger, with 4# leader is 4-lb mono.
My favorite lures are Hildebrandt Flicker Spinners. These lures are trout KILLERS. I know you can get them at Amazon and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I like Hula poppers for bass, but I'm strictly C&R with bass. Don't like cleaning them. Trout are easier because you don't have to skin them to cook them.
