Newport Oil Spill

Oil spill in Newport not looking good this going to possible be an ecological desaster.  Here is an article on this.  I will be watching this as well.

So here is what I am seeing so far Huntington Beach - In partnership with the Orange County Health Care Agency, the City made the decision to close the ocean and shoreline in Huntington Beach between the Santa Ana River Jetty and Seapoint Street. At this time.

Newport Beach Harbor Remains Open - As of Sunday evening Newport Harbor remains open. Boaters are being asked to avoid traversing the oil spill as it may cling to vessels and could bring oil into the harbor.

Oil Spill Response Vessels will be skimming oil off the Newport Beach coast throughout the night. This includes one stationed near the Harbor entrance.

The City of Newport Beach is actively monitoring and responding to the oil spill as part of the Unified Incident Command led by the U.S. Coast Guard.

I will be watching this as we have our Toy Drive event out in Newport Nov. 28th. The hope is it will remain open and we are ok to be there. But if we need to move it we will do so for our overall safety. My thoughts are to move it to the L.A.B. Just a thought right now.

I was at the L.A.B which is very far North of the spill so no issues were I was.  But looks like it is harming my usual spot in Huntington.  Plus we need to watch this for our Toy Drive this next month.  I am sure there will be some volunteering going on as well, I will try to keep some info flowing here about all this.

Saturday afternoon me and my friends were kicking in newport harbor, around 9 at night we started smelling lots and lots of fuel. I looked in the water and you can see the oil or wvr it is trail everywhere. My eyes started burning and i started feeling dizzy from the fumes so i went as fast as i could to get out of the water. I started doing some research and it seems like the "oil" that leaked was somewhat refined. Its alot thinner than other oil spills and i think its alot harder to conatain. Today they closed down newport harbor completely. Heres some pics i got from by the wedge. As of now no volunteers can help unless hazmat certified, I asked a few workers. but i did see giant crews working to clean it up which is a good thing!!!

yea from my understanding a small pipe from an offshore platform has a leak in it. Sucks cuz they've already found dead fish and birds from it and the entire area is S**t down.

Yeah it does suck!! And today the winds are blowing strong. By the looks of it, it might end up all the way to sd here soon if they cant contain it!! Looks like they are doing a good job at the beach though! I wish i could help!!!

FYI they have closed Dana Point Harbor.

This suck looks like I will need to start fishing more Freshwater. There are still places open but it's getting limited now. This sucks.

Yea ill bet man. Just be mindful you'll have to deal with toxic algae, droughts, and loch ness monsters over here in the freshwater side

Ok fellas just read that Huntington beach was opened back up!

Yep that looks right Huntington Beach is open again. I am checking on Newport both harbors are open and functioning as well.
