I'm looking to buy waders sooner than later.

Hey, its FTFF FNG again.

With Fall just around the corner (and hopefully cooler temps all around on the way) I thought it might be good to start researching the subject of waders. I know that I'll be looking for the "sock" style, since my HOTSPOT fins won't accommodate a "boot" style.

Do you guys have a favorite brand? I don't need the best, but I also don't like to go with the cheapest either. I'd be using them hopefully at least once a week for the float tube. Also, I wear a size 9 street shoe. Through my brief research it appears that I'm on the cusp for sizes Medium and Large. Mediums look like they go from 7-9, and Larges seem to be 9-11. I'm not very tall so I'm leaning towards the medium based of shoe size and the inseam charts I've seen.

Any input would be appreciated.

I like Frogg Togg but that is me. They are not high end but also not cheap. I suggest trying on a few pair. There is a fly fishing shop in Fullerton called Bob Marriott's. They have plenty of waders to try on a size. Or try the Bass Pro of course.
I purchase my waders off of Amazon, the good thing is if they are the wrong size you can exchange them quick. I did this once and it was a very fast turn around for the correct size. At least that was my experience.

I love Bob Marriott’s. Great folks there. Did some fly casting lessons with Kevin. So cool. They have Simms and Redington there but you’ll pay for em.

As for waders, I agree with jeff , try some on and see. I got mine from Waders.com because I was looking for a specific size. You can easily do Amazon for Frogg Toggs and others once you find what you like and what size suits you best.

Sounds like you intend to be using the waders pretty often at once a week. I suggest looking into LL bean. They aren't the cheapest but not the most expensive. However, where you benefit as a user is their warranty policy. They have been known to take care of their customers even after the normal return policy has expired. Just something to think about.

What waters are you fishing beedee?
I have a Simms G4 boot-foot and a G4 sock-foot and a Caddis sock-foot wader. (No leaks)
I don’t use them anymore. I always hung them upside down by their boots and off the floor from boot racks.

Are you in the San Diego area?

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.

I plan on fishing our local marinas/harbors. Alamitos Bay, Huntington Harbor, Newport Harbor, LA Harbor (Cabrillo area).

SP Dan, I'm located in Long Beach.

Hi beedee,

I could’ve offered you a price on waders that you could not have 🐎 refused! lol. Oh well! lol

Just remember this, when you buy inexpensive and cheap waders you will go through them almost every season, if you fish hard … like I do. And you will be replacing them every season; like I did, that is until I finally went with quality material’d waders (SIMM’s).

Good luck on your search. 👍🏼
My suggestion: fish hard (with weedless) from 1st Pl. to 5th Pl. and back, staying along the buoy line and cast toward the beach with a slow bounce, pause, slow retrieval!!
I know what I’m talking about, trust me. 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Good luck on getting your PB!
