Ya it's a pain. I have been visiting sites the last few months and there are many open sites that show closed as they were reserved. Then they don't show and it's sits empty.

The places I've camped were always first come, first served.
I did camp at Sequoia once Years ago. Think we has reservations as it was a huge family gathering. We took up 6 camp spaces.

I'm for it.

I also remember as a kid, the 10hr drive only to find the campground we wanted was booked. Thankfully the next morning we found a family that was leaving so we got their spot.

Ya I always camped at a private campground (camp Switzerland) lake Gregory. Once I started camping with my family we had to find new places. It was tough back then. Now I have to book a sight months in advance. I hope this helps out.
