For those of us that fish in NorCal
Found myself in clearlake for the memorial day weekend with some friends renting a lakeside house...
Catfish is more or less full speed. Caught a lot (talking about 40+fish) on both bait and plastics for our three night two day stay. Bait used was fresh shrimp on a slider setup producing catfish from 10-15lbs. The catfish also wanted to chew plastics (flapping hogs, yamamoto ikas, jigs and lizards).
Carp are pretty active in their spawn with numerous busting fish day and night.
We managed only one bluegill caught and saw only one dead crappie floating.
Bassfishing was a far cry from what it is known for. People were struggling to get bit it seems. We had access to a bass boat and had only one catfish on a jig to show for 1/2 day fishing rattlesnake island, rockpiles and docks. We did see some bass cruising around though.
Fishing from the dock at the rental produced 7 bass from 2.5-4.5lbs. They wanted a slower presentation it seemed with the best producing bait between the black/blue flake yamatanuki and a junebug flapping hog. I did get one on an ika and a lizard. we missed a few fish too due to fisherman errors.
There are fish, just need to be willing to put in the work for them. It's a mix of post spawn/prespawn fish it seems.
Good luck out there!
