After todays skunk at lake poway i hit up my stomping grounds for some spotty action.
Tide was super low and the water was like glass. The day started off bad....i missed 4 fish in a row and was getting pretty frustrated. 2 of those missed fish were my fault though....they happened right after i launched....the first one while i was adjusting the seat on my tube and the other while i was putting some gear away. The other two were swings for nothin.
After missing those fish i see the launch ramp going crazy (again) with fish exploding on the surface. I land two 8" spotties on the ramp and move on when it dies down.
For the rest of the night I slowly picked away at some really small spotties. It's pretty frustrating landing small fish when all of October and November I was landing much bigger fish. The biggeat spotty today was about 10"....not good enough for me.
As i kick in it goes crazy again around the boat ramp and docks near the ramp. I make a cast and begin a slow sub surface retrieve....get hit and land my first corvina ever. It was about 10" long but its still cool because I added a new species to my list.
In total I caught around 12 spotties and the one corvina. All fish were under 12" long and hit on "slow & low" retrieves.
All fish caught on T&C swimgrubs on a 1/4 oz led head or texas rigges with a 1/4 oz bullet weight....all bait got the hot sauce treatment today.
Did i mention that it is extremely cold tonigt....i could see my breath and my feet went numb.
