I'm seeing a few double action pumps on Amazon
Saving some $ compared to the pumps offered by the FT manufacturers.
One is a Coleman brand for $7.00 as of today
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Another is Kwik Tec for $11.86
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Do any of you have these?
The Kwik Tec does have the downstroke only feature for higher pressures when topping off.
One concern that I have is that they might not have to correct adapter tip to fit the boston valves on the FT's

Man wish i bought one online. I bought the Outcast model for $35...it works really good tho and is so much more convinent than going to a gas station to fill up.

Im sure if it doesnt comr with the right adapter you could find one or jimmy rig one to work.

That Colman one for $7 looks like a great deal the other one is a good pump also. Don't think you can go wrong with either one.

The one that came with my ODC is pretty good pump. Pretty fast too. Unfortunately no name brand on it. Just came with the tube. Speaking of pumps the guy at Creek Co told me I want about 3-4# psi each bladder. So I guess there IS a recommended psi for tubes.

Thanks guys!
Whatever adapter tips they come with, I'm sure I'll be able to make it work Wink
Leaning towards the Kwik Tec since it looks like the same pump offered by the FT manuf.
The Coleman looks a little different at the base.

One other question:
Are you able to adj. the air bladder pressure on the water?
I thought that I saw on another board, someone adding short pieces of tubing to the valve and topping it up with lung power.
Does the added tubing sound feasible or necessary?

i even took my pump out with me a few time and another guy would go out with a leaky tube and he had a battery operated pump and pumped it up in the water (ocean)

Hey Guys,
I have the outcast dbl action pump. works great. Kinda expensive but got mine on a closeout at sports chalet. Had to adapt the fitting to my new toons but no big deal, just like ED a little sand paper and voila!
Just a tip for you when you inflate your tube. Make sure you account for expansion due to heat and atmospheric pressure change.

Example: Temperature...After filling your tube in the morning when it's cooler, be sure and give your tube the squeeze test later in the day after it has been in the sun a bit. and likewise if you fill it in the heat of the day and fish into the dark. As it gets hotter, (expands and pressure goes up) or colder, ( contracts and pressure goes down) you should adjust. I once filled my tube in the dark at my hotel room in Indio,( air temp around 80) and the went fishing. By 10 in the morning I noticed my tube was bulging around all my sewn straps. My tube was hard as a stone! I was at the Salton Sea. The air temp was 113!!

Example: Atmospheric Pressure...If you fill your tube and then transport it, be aware of the atmospheric changes as you go from sealevel to altitude. The higher the elevation the lower the AP (the tube expands) I once had a friend of mine fill his tube at his home and then drive to Mammoth and half way up the Sherwin Grade have it blow out seams as the tube expanded with the lower AP. The same guy on the same trip, strapped his new tube (that he had to buy in Mammoth) to the roof of his car and almost lose it in the desert as it shrunk and became loose in the straps at the lower altitude!

Remember, you want your tube as tight as it can be with out over stressing it, because a tight tube keeps you higher, (drier), is smoother, (faster), and will not wick up as much water. (lighter) Also when the tube is tight it resists snagging and puncture, and rebounds off impact better.

I used to keep a compact bicycle pump in my tube for adjusting and emergencies. They are small and light and not very expensive.

bodfish

PS. I use a DC electric pump. Those hand pumps are too much work!! Hee Hee!!

The Coleman pump from Walmart is less than 12 bucks and has an adapter for the Boston valve used on most tubes. It works great. They also have a 12 volt pump for under 20 bucks if you are lazy.

That's what i use, the battery powered at my house to get the float 80% then at the the hand pump to top it off at the fishing site.
