Ok now that I have everyone's attention I have a few questions.

On a few other forums (and possibly this one I really can't remember) I've heard different people talking about lizard fish. It seems like they are being caught more frequently now than other parts of the year. Keep in mind I was on deployment for 6 months so maybe I missed out on some good "lizard bites". What I'm wondering, is the lizard fish population really increasing as much as I think it is. I myself have caught more this year than I did last year...maybe because I've been fishing more, and in new spots. Either way, I feel like sometime in the future the lizards could have a negative on our fishery. Anybody agree or have a different opinion?

One or two guys even mentioned a DFG agent telling him to "kill those lizard fish" because they are starting to become an issue.

I've always thrown 99.9% of EVERYTHING I catch back into the water. Legal halibut, bass, skate, lizards etc.

I'm sure if I killed every lizard I catch it won't make a huge difference, but what if every angler killed every lizard caught.....what are the possible results of this?

I'm not trying to justify killing anything...but I am concerned about these things taking over and really hurting the fishery.

Opinions??

so we kill the lizard fish and let them go back in the water and let mother nature take it course i am not put those slimy lil things in my tube i will kill them if they are a problem in the enviroment but me no like to touch them let alone keep them on my tube to die . i could cut there heads off and throw them back but that might atrack other sea animals like seals and sharks and who knows what so i wait to hear more on this subject and hopefully some facts

Yea my last outing in SD bay I caught a bunch.....still didn't kill any but instead of shaking them off the hook like I normally do...I used my pliers to ensure they're lower jaw wouldn't work properly anymore. Good halibut bait I head....but don't know if these lizards "school" like some bait fish do. Seems like halibut will eat them but only if they happen to be near the bottom of the water...I catch a lot of mine at the top.

I have not heard anything about lizard fish on the rise. They only place I have caught lizard fish consistently would be L.A.B
I would be interested to find out more about this as far as the DFG telling us to kill them if we catch them. study
