Alabama Rig

Has anyone tried one in the salt yet? I have five of them ready to go. I was telling Jeff today I should be completly unpacked by Monday so I can start my fishing excursions again by next weekend. Anyone going out next weekend yet?

never tried the salt but im sure thell smash it like fresh water..... I heard white curly tails work best cus u can fish em slower than a boot tail style n they still have plenty of action.

hey fellas. haven't posted since, well i dont have a tube anymore. i've tossed out a few "prototypes" of the alabama rigs i made with stainless steel wire. no luck when i've had to cast since it sounds like someone just fell in the water but on a short pitch or a drop i've had hits. i've had problems with paddle tails. the action on curly tails and the crazy legs from gulp are great.

if anyone is interested, the guys at anglers center told me that longfin has some saltwater alabama rigs.

I've used similar things for trolling for Striped Bass....don't think I could ever chuck this thing for more than half an hour without my arm falling off. I've heard of guys using the "Calibama rig" with blades on it as attractants. I'm sure it will catch fish and I'm sure the fish it does catch are mainly TOADS.

I used umbrellas in the salt on troll a LONG time ago. Never used that thing though.

i think the rule in california is that you can only use 3 hooks in freshwater. you can rig up as many plastics as you want but only 3 can have hooks.

That sounds about right.

I seen a much smaller version of this at tackle shop few weeks ago that only had 2. can hook it to a spinnerbait, swimbait or jig and make it into a 3 bait set up.

longfin has them in the 3 and 5 hook setups for $10-$15. i made my own out of 16 gauge stainless steel wire. chucked it out for a few hours using a heavy surf rod. killed my arms.

Has anyone used them and if so with any success? May be good to try in open water, but I couldn't imagine trying to toss that next to or around structure without getting snagged all the time.
