Here is my 3yr old little baby sporting a freshly made rod holder. Planning on using it tomorrow at the salty gathering!

i looked at it real close and you can see he has it tide down at the bottom but not sure with what. it is a nice set up though. the thing about abs is that it is cheep enough to change thing around if the setup you come up with doesn't quit work.

That looks like a well made and thought out rod holder wiseguy. Do you see any advantages on using a vertical rod holder verses that lays flat on the water like the ones outcast makes?

If you fish calm water the lay down rod holders will be ok. For the salt you want your rods to be in the upward position since the water gets sloppy with more waves. By having them up, you are keeping your reels further from the water to prevent them from getting splashed and soaked.

Also something another member told me is that it is difficult to maneuver in tight spaces (docks) with the lay flat rod holders. You won't be able to work tighter areas without bumping your rods around.

That's why you get the best of both worlds with the rods off at a 45 like that. They are somewhat vertical to keep your reels away from the water but at the same time they are not straight up which allows you to go under lower clearances (bridges)
