After a lot of research (much of it right here on this amazing site), getting ready to purchase a Cumberland. I like everything about it other than the foam seats which the general consensus seems to agree are inferior to inflatable seats. I've done some searching for inflatable float tube seats and come up empty handed. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase one?

All input would be gratefully appreciated!

Ed had this problem. We measured the seats and I think Fishcat has an inflatable that will work. He never made the switch but I'm sure it will work. Remember, even if the seat is a little larger, it will only fill to the capacity of the pocket. Coincidentally, this is the same practice Fishcat uses in their bladders. They are over sized. I read they do this on purpose. So I would not worry about that as a detail.

Give it a go.

Thanks for reading.

Just a quick update. Didn't see the inflatable cushions on Outcast's site so I emailed them. They do sell inflatible seats and backs. They're sold separately and $50 each. Pretty pricey but I reckon my butt will thank me. Lol.

They are pricey but well worth it. Your back will thank you as well.
I floated one time with the form seat for about 6-7hrs and my butt & back was killing me after words. If you can, I would buy 2 of them for the seat & back but get at least 1 for the seat.

Many thanks miller. I think I'll start with one of each until I see how they work with the Cumberland. I'm 5'9" and 155 so hopefully one will be enough. If not, back to Outcast. If I wind up with two each of these things the seat will cost more than the tube! But hey, we're talking fishing here, right? We're planning a five day trip to Bishop in June. Looking forward to tubing Virginia Lakes, Crowley, and maybe take a shot at those huge browns in Pleasant Valley Reservoir. Fingers crossed!

Your welcome buddy. You should be pleased with it. I know I am and will never go back to form again.
Good luck up there and I hoping to be able to make it up again this summer after 16yrs of being away.
Remember when tubing up there the winds get bad so plan on tubing in the mornings and late afternoon/evening times and try out June lake loop. Good fishing in all the lakes there

I emailed The Creek Company inquiring about their inflatable seat and back rest and got the following reply:

"Unfortunately the only inflatable seat we make is for our ODC 420, and is not compatible with other manufacturers float tubes. You might check Fish Cat, Outkast or Dave Skadden for something that might fit properly."

Thanks again Chomp for the suggestion.

I'm sure it will fit. I'll check with my buddy as he has the 420 tube with the air seat & back and see if it fits his fish cat as well. If it fit the fish and my surper fat cat I'm sure it will fit your Cumberland.
I'll let know ASAP

Ok I talked to my buddy and as of right now the 420 air seat & back will work with your Cumberland. There might a very small difference in size but it will not be noticeable and for $50 for a set, you can't go wrong

ODC it is. I must say this forum is quite remarkable. You guys are the best and I hope to have the opportunity to fish with you. I've been fishing since Moby Dick was a minnow - bass, trout, salmon, inshore (mostly) and offshore (a little) saltwater - essentially anything that will pull my string. I have a 17' Lowe but I'm new to the float tube side of things. Your willingness to help a newbie is genuinely appreciated.

So, did you ever get inflatable cushions for your Cumberland? I remember reading this thread a while back and wondering what you guys were talking about. Then, yesterday I spent almost 9 hours straight in my tube and my back was KILLING me afterwards (and still is today)!!! So now I'm all ears.......

If you purchased the cushions, do you have any pictures of them in use?

All inflatable seats are the same and will work in all tubes. Some may fit better than others but its not a big deal.

Gatorfan, the air seats are a must have. They will save your back alot

Do these inflatable seats just sit on top of your cushion seat or do you remove the foam cushions and replace them with the inflatables? I don't remember seeing a zipper or velcro on my Cumberland seats that would allow me to change the cushions out but I'll look when I get home.

There is a flap with velcro on the back side. Changing your posture throughout the day will help with the back pain. Much of the time I do not use the back rest. Getting out and taking a rest will help also. I do that about every 2 or 3 hours. My bladder reminds me when it is time to walk around. Cool

I'm tempted to go with the air-bladder, but, the foam seat will float when all the air is gone out of all the bladders. Sort of a back-up PFD. With me it is the primary PFD!

BTW, that foam seat cushion holds a fair amount of water and should be drained before storing.
