Everyone will have their opinions, my favorite for spotties/sandys/calicos are the St. Croix Tidemaster rods, they aren't that expensive and have good feel when I throw the smaller baits on them.
These are them: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I use a GrafTech Wallbanger from time to time as well, but the one I have as a little bit too much play in the rod for me throwing the smaller swim/creature baits, it's heaven with the hard baits though.

Action wise, I personally like a fast tip with the rest of the rod to have the backbone to lift the fish away from cover, though I do see others with a slower taper or overall just more bend then I use. All comes down to personal preference, and what you feel most comfortable using.

Here is a personal rod I might be willing to sell. It is the Phenix Ultra MBX 8-17lb. Sweeeet spottie rod and I agree with Gilbert on that. It's used but still in great shape. Let me know if your interested. I can take $120 for it. Trust me, that is dirt CHEAP! Reel seat alone on this is $35!

Oh and I used it strictly on my LEWS TP! Twisted Evil

i tried pm'ing you but i cant seem to figure it out.... anyways if this rod is already spoken for how much would it cost for you to build me a finesse casting rod? looking for something around the medium/light-medium range. mostly bottom contact techniques like drop shot, shakey heads, darter heads and weightless senkos. using 1/8 minimum to 3/8 max (total weight, jighead+plastic).

shoot me a text or call if its more convenient for you. 619 905 thirty four ninty six

sorry to hijack your thread

chomponthis definitely got himself a steal. great rod for a cheap price

not just a spottie rod... with 30lb braid i think this rod would of been great for throwing frogs, flipping and pitching in fresh water.

i personally like throwing a medium, medium/light for spotties. we gotta remember these are only 1-2lb fish on average....

These spotties maybe only 1.5lbs on avg but they can pull and fight like no other fish out there. I have had 2lber put a nice bend and put up a good fight on my heavy action rod, 50lb PPS8 with a top shot of 30lb Fluro.

thats just me. ive ripped so many lips using medium heavy rods with braided line ive given up throwing braid in the bay.

than again im throwing 1/4 oz jig heads with light wire hooks. i never throw anything over 3/8 for spotties.

and hands down. bone fish are 10x's stronger than spotties. a 2lb bone fish peels more drag than a legal halibut. atleast from my experience.
