With all these awesome reports of LMB and Shocked at that 17lber on WON front page from Otay, figured I get outta the salt and freshen up a bit. Needless to say, im not the best Freshwater fisherman, but freshwater takes serious patience! All you freshwater guys..much respect salute salute

Found myself in Santee somehow even though L. Otay is 5min from my house..Fished two consecutive days 1st day caught 6, 2nd day 1. Mostly on drop shot. Lost several on the topwater..but cant get enough of those VIOLENT strikes.
Ill take no skunk in freshwater ANY DAY haha Thumbs Up

No monsters..First fish had one eye. Bite was fair in the morning til the wind started blowing..

Surprisingly, fish started going after freeing up this bird from some mono in the tulies..(he returned safely) funny how karma works Smile

Thanks for the comments and tips guys...seeing top water strikes in videos is nothing compared to seeing them in person..that was my first time running topwater in fresh. If I see a 5lb+ bass hit a top water, ill flip!

Yeah for sure good Karma dude! Happy Mudhen (Coot) also. Nice going on the bass too. That river has some giants in it! Try 10" black straight worms rigged weightless Texas style along the edge of the tules.

Lol! Those pelicans are nasty sometimes. I always have problems with cormorants..esp at the bait barge.

They are great looking birds, cool red eye. Funky feet..it would be a shame to have left it to die. Thanks for the tip! 10" straight worms,Ill pick some up.. I have some 100ct bgs of powerbait worms, black with blue flake[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and june bug...will those work? Have had them for a while..just never used em.Im such a fresh newb.. With such a long worm, can I use the same 3/O 4/O EWGs? or do I have to use beast hooks?
Thanks in advance Very Happy

A 4/0 will work. Just make sure to "skin" hook the point on the side of the worm. Don't push it through the body of the worm. Also, when you get bit with these big worms, let the fish move off a little before setting the hook because Bluegill will grab those, but will drop them pretty fast, where as Mr. Bass will swim off with them. But don't wait too long or you may end up hooking the bass in their throats.

It freaked me out more than I did it..that little guy got chompers on a swivel head.Evil or Very Mad..was biting everything..kinda like this?[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] lol. I used my tackle box and buff just to distract him enough to immobilize it. haha

Great report and that is top notch work helping the bird out of a jam. That is worth 3 month good karma in my books.
