Hi I am trying to decide what would be the best option for inflating a tube at the fishing site. I am visiting a remote location on a 4 wheeler ATV. Once there I can use a 12v air compressor or take a hand pump. Just curious, and dont want to take all day to inflate the tube.

I double action pump gets the job done just fine but access to electricity always makes the job easier. You can use an electrical air mattress pump!

You can go either way, like .:LOLLY:. said the double action pump will do the job just fine. If your tube is completely empty then I think you would be best to use the electric pump for speed reasons. But if you are like most of use we leave our tubes partially pumped so the double actions pump takes no time at all. Just my 2 cents.

I got a double action pump that cost me 10 bucks at wal mart and i have my fish cat completely filled in 2 mins (1 min per bladder) and I leave it completely deflated in the trunk of my car

x3 on the double action pump. It's a bit bulky, but when you're on the go, it's the greatest item you can get. You can get the compact version of the double action pump, but, it's going to set you back $40.

^This x2.
I bought both the double action hand pump for $10, and a 12v electric pump for the car/truck that cost $12 there. The 12v gets my ODC420 filled in a few seconds and I finish it off with the hand pump. Total spent at WalMart was <$25 dollars while just the Double action pump elsewhere will likely set you back $19.99+tax.

Double Action and/or electric all the way.

couldn't find a double action pump at our local wally-world so I got a small battery operated unit and it works great. Used it about 4 times now and the batteries are still good. I came with 4 nozzle sizes and the medium size fits the cumberland valves perfectly.

thanks all and good fishing!

Excellent choice. I converted my 12V LiPO to provide the power to my electric pump as well, which I used to pump up my camping air mattresses (yeah yeah..the missus wants her comfort), but also use it for the skeeter and tubes. Mini-double pump is great to have for the "Just In Case I Forget" moment.

Well, inflation options depends where you are headed and how you'll get there. My float tube destinations are tyically 10 to 20 miles from the nearest parking spot--and in wilderness that prohibits entry other than on foot or horseback. I go on foot, so 12V or batteries are not an option--just too heavy. IF you fish the wilderness and need a very handy and very light pump, nothing beats the Coghlans double action air pump. Cost $5 or $6, if you can find one. They are no longer made, but they are still on the shelves in some stores. An alternative--Google search for pumps to inflate baloons. these are also light, double action pumps, but don't know how reliable.

I never go out without 3' of clear vinyl tubing. 3/4" OD, 1/2" ID. I store it behind my Cumberland seat. Fits perfectly in the Boston valve. A couple puffs tops off each bladder. If ever I spring a leak I can actually puff on it as I kick. As for pumps, I prefer the 4 D-Cell type.

I would fill up the tube at the fish site specially when your backpacking because it's a hot day your tube could pop you don't need that so I would definitely leave it deflated and set up at the fishing area

This is what you need for that "OH CRAP!" moment on the water:

It's great to have a strong pair of lung, and a good delivering system (aka your mouth and hose). However, when you have an intermediate to fast deflation issue, kicking and pumping with your mouth may put you in a position of passing out. It's a hyperventilation scenario.

I couldn't open the picture. Can you paste it instead of a link?

Cool! Thanx men! One Q? Is it a dual action because pushes air when the plunge goes up and down?

And the larger one (in silver or yellow) will deliver a heck of an air volume in half the time of the large K pump, and just about a few strokes (few seconds) shy of a 12V air pump. I have all. 12V pump used for my air mattress, pontoon, and float tubes. I have the dual action pump for the wet rainy days. Emergency pumps (mini K or my own mouth and lungs with hoses). I also have a foot pump, which I consider it as useless.

And for those that don't know, the K pump is a single action (only pushes air in one direction)
