Daiwa Lexa 300H

I'm in the market for a new baitcaster to accommodate multiple elements from freshwater LMB to harbor fishing for SBB to the possible island kelp fishing for calicos and sandbass. As I was looking around the daiwa 300H seems to accommodate all of that.

Has anyone owned or fished with this reel? What are your thoughts on it?

I am also open to other reel suggestions you guys may have that can accommodate the different elements I'm looking for. My max budget is $150 but if I can find a reel that is less expensive it will be awesome. I all for best bang for the dollar theory  

I own this reel and love it! That being said, I would not use it for harbor fishing, I think it's too big for that application, I prefer a smaller reel for bay fishing. The Lexa 300 is great for Island fishing for calicos, yellows and why not, you can toss big baits at those green LMB also! My 2 cents.

Anyway, I cant speak for the Diawa, but I have a couple of Shimano Corvalus reels. I took one on a tuna trip by accident and decided to use it to see how it would fare with a tuna. I backed it with 50lb braid, locked down the drag and I swear I could not pull any line off that reel! I ended up with 2 albacore on that that reel.

Ive used it in the salt, for trolling trout and for catfish, its pretty versitile.

For the 150 range, you might be able to pick up a used revo toro. Are you firm on using a low profile? There are a few options out for the round bait casters. millionaires and corvalus being the ideal ones for the price range. You can upgrade their drags to handle the kelp critters as well. There are used lunas/calcuttas in that range as well if you pay attention to other boards.

I would pick up a Citica 200 as it is a good size for the bay and the FW.  New they are $130, but you can find them on the used market for much less. Smooth reel and well worth the price.

I have a 300h, a 300hs-p, and a couple of 100hs lexas. I have to agree with wiseguy on the size. For greenbass and bayfishin, the 100 is perfect, for me. Even for calicos. I use the 300s for big swimbaits. They are a little big for fishing the bay and largemouth. That's just my opinion.

I don't think you will be able to find a reel that will be able to comfortably do double duty. IMO you will need at least two different reels. If anything, decide which you do more between boat and tube then pick the one that better suites that situation. Then when you absolutely have to you can get away with light duty of whatever the other thing is. Hope that makes sense...

I'm primary going to get this reel to fish big swimbaits for LMB, stripers, and inshore gamefish. When I get it I'm going to give it a try and fish it in the harbors for SBB and halibut.
