Well I just purchase a new inshore low profile bait casting reel, Lexa 300 by Diawa. 8:1 with all stainless ball bearings. That's what sold me over Shimano, the brand I usually buy. I'LL be fishing it Jan. 15 out of DP. Any body want chime in on +/-?.....thanks GT

8:1 isn't that hauling ass?

For salt I still use my old Penn reels, and an Abu 5500 is my fast "inshore reel."

Maybe give us a report on the 16th about it.

workhorse of a reel. be careful how to wash down the reel. It has to be stored reel foot down in order for it to really be able to drain. Break it down and do a pre fish inspection of it. I've heard of a few dry ones when they first came out. I own a lexa 300L 6.3 and it's a workhorse. I slapped on an aftermarket power handle (one that now comes stock with the HD lexas) and had a blast pulling on skipjack. It handles calicos/sandbass and the average grade (sub 20lb) yellows like a champ. I don't know how it'll fare with the larger homeguards due to line capacity concerns, but people have made impressive catches with them. Mind you, they are definitely not comparable to a tranx since they are half the cost of one, but a great bang of the buck.

Thanks Jerdon. Ya I got the 8:1 to get out of trouble.

So u think I should open her up Kin and take a look? She spins really smooth, came with the power handle.

TonyG can't wait to rip it up.........GT

Open her up to put a light coat of grease on the insides of the side plates/frame just for safe measure. Good to check out the grease situation inside too. The stock power handle is a knuckle buster for me. If I grip it a little off, I rub my knuckles along the drag star, that's why I decided to get the aftermarket power handle
