I took my new yak out on its maiden voyage yesterday with a Opah Winfrey and a good friend. It got a good christening welcoming in the smell of spottie slime and scratches to the hull from boat docks. All in all it was a fun trip with spotties, sandies, a Sculpin, and Jacksmelt caught on plastics.

WTG on the maiden voyage!
How does it feel fighting the fish from the yak as opposed to the tube?

Thanks. Since my kayak is a sit in I'm even lower in the water than when I'm in my Cumberland. If you fish in a kayak you sacrifice control of your position and pocket storage for speed and moderate dryness. I'd say that if you were fishing at lakes and underwater structure a kayak is better. If you're fishing pilings and tight structure you want a tube.

Long story short, a yak allows to fish fast and cover ground. While a tube allows you to fish effectively and in tighter locations.

I haven't made the final verdict on the new ride, but I'm liking it so far. I don't have to worry about springing a leak in the yak, but flipping is a concern. lol it was A LOT easier to take care of my physiological needs in there though as compared to the tube. Red Smile

Good job out there. Hope traffic wasn't as bad as when I was out there last week. Now that you have a kayak, are you going to be offering free tows for us tubers? lol!

Thanks Tony. It's a Malibu Sierra 10 a sit in. Got it for 279 without a seat.

I'm loving it so far since it's a relatively small yak, and it's a sit in with a open back storage. It's rare to find sit ins designed like this.

Thanks again. If you're serious about yaks I'd suggest getting a sit on top so you won't be bound to calm waters.
