So following up my post about sleeper rods I headed out on my tube to the lake I've been fishing, armed with a fly rod and a bait rod with a suspended herring under a float. What I didn't realise was the lake is linked to the river and had flooded slightly, approx 2' of cold coloured water. I thought the deadbait rod might have produced a fish given the conditions, the water temperature had plummeted to 45.2 from 56 three weeks ago when I was last there. After 3 hours confidence had all but gone and I needed to head in to answer the call of nature. On going back in I thought sod it and lobbed my bait rod about 30yds behind the tube and slowly trolled it back in, then a quick pull on the baitrunner had me looking, I could still see the float and it wasnt moving, put my fly rod down and grabbed my bait rod, assuming I'd trolled it over some weed and that had caused the pull of the baitrunner I wound down and was surprised to feel a couple of headshakes, line quickly peeled of the drag and as soon as it had set off running it threw the hooks. I had another hour to fish had I have wished but decided to call it a day and head back to the car
