3 upright berkley rod holders, one caddis float tube rod holder, an outcast fishin buddy holder (i originally built one, but this works better. the thing on the right side was supposed to be for my paddles but i got the dive scooter so that became a horizontal rod holder. also have a red Angels flag. i built a camera mount but i keep forgetting to pack it. one of these days i'll remember. when i built this, i was still entertaining the idea of oars or paddles, will have a re-design soon.

Nice job looks like you got all your bases covered. Now build upward and you can make yourself a shade canopy also =).

Well done my friend, the over head cover would be cool on those hot days. That is a great set up I hope you get plenty of time on the water to play with it.

thanks guys! if you have any critiques or suggestions, please let me know. if you have anything you ever wanted to try, i'd probably be willing to do it on mine.

putting together a schematic for a new rig with some changes to address the problems i had when i took her out on tuesday. will focus on a compact, easy to assemble design. also adding more attachment points by using eye bolts instead of carriage bolts where i can.

as far as the cover, any ideas? i have a mini bimini top on my mind. need something that wont catch the wind (no sail power for me) or limit my vision and casting angles. i dont need to completely block out the sun, just enough to stay cool.

btw, my coworkers think i'm getting crazy. someone suggested i start a pimp my float tube tv show. doesn't help that i have an a-team/macgyver complex and love building stuff. this is a normal thing for new float tubers right?

For quick assembly and break down try using wing-nuts with the carriage bolts or hitch pins with a cotter pin or safety latch instead of bolts.

As far as shade canopy material that lets wind pass through maybe some sort of screen like mosquito netting or screen door material. Or like at construction sites they use a solid canvas or tarp with slits cut into it so they open when the wind blows instead of catching it.

Any crazy, odd or stainless hardware you might need try McMastercarr.com

And next time you are out in Newport look up Minney's Yacht Surplus they have alot of cool stainless fasteners, hooks and tie downs. I use alot of stuff from there for my kayak.

thanks man, feel free. i actually got some of the ideas from another site.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

the wrap around definitely gives it a lot more stability. another thing is the rear rod holders were a bit inconvenient on the water. i'd go with side mounted. i used 1/2" pvc for the frame, rod holders should be 1.5" or 2". eye bolts can give you plenty cheap attachment sites on the frame. also, if you plan on using any strap-on attachments, make sure the front of the frame doesn't extend past the pockets. if storage space and transportation aren't a problem, forget about the union couplings, they add up. the flag is just a car flag that i cut the mounts off of and zip tied to a pvc pipe. team pride and safety all in one.

i'm going to maybe make a guide when i build another frame.

sorry about the code, i host on picasa so i dont have to upload too many times.
