Hunt Harbor 1-24-18

Launched around 0530, and had nothing to show for the first hour. It was a gentle tide flowing out to sea with low tide around 1030. Fished mainly the flats for the first two hours with a few dinks to show for my efforts. So I gradually worked my way to the Los Pados bridge and fished mainly the northwest side.

I guess it was around 1030 and I finally got some fish, Calico, Mackerel and Spotties, my trifecta......But the big suprise of the day was my almost 17" Spottie. What a fight, back and forth, trying to go under the tube, but she had inhaled the HUB and finally I netted her. After some pics I had the pleasure of releasing her back into the water, one fish I will always remember..........GT

That is a beast buddy when they get that big they like to flex there muscle and show you whos boss. Nice work buddy great job.

GT.. Congrats on that great day of fishing, especially landing that very nice and very old Spotted Sand Bass! You know that fish would have measured 17 inches if you would have closed the tail relaxing it and closed the mouth so the lower jaw extends out a little more than when it is open. (I did fish taxidermy for 40 years and charged by the inch.) Also what are you talking about when you said: "she had inhaled the HUB". ..Is that a bait/lure?

Yes it is Komori.....Hook Up Baits. I use the 1/4 oz. It is a fish head jig that has a tubular body. HookUpBaits.com..

Congrat's on the 17" toad!

My PB is still standing at 18 3/4" ... I found that once they reach about 12" in length, they really start to develop some shoulders and their GRUMPY attitudes.

17" can spin your tube. I'll bet you thought that it was a Hali at first, I always do. lol
