I like to carry a spinning reel with me in the bays and harbors. Sometimes there are teeny bait fish boiling, and I toss a HUB 1/16th OZ over into the boil... only a spinning rod can do that. They're fast, accurate and from time to time I'll get crushed on that little jig.
I've been using my Shimano Spirex 2500 on the Phenix Feather 4-10 rod - but the problem is the foot on the reel is so short, the reel seat on the rod won't grab it correctly. I've been wrapping the foot with Electrician's tape to make it sort of work.... and it still wobbles a bit. Not good.
SO.... bit down, left my Shimano family (for the first time in about 30 years or so...) and grabbed the Daiwa.
I'll spin on 10# PowerPro braid and the 7.3# Seaguar flouro. Super excited.
This reel is smoooov. And it is feather light... its like there is no reel on the rod... so light. I love the huge drag washers (first thing I always look for in a spinning reel) and I can't wait to get it on the water this weekend.
I've been using the Spirex reels since the 80s - since the Shimano Aero days. Always had two paddles on the handle, always had a trigger. Its weird having a single paddle spinning reel. Its weird needing two hands to cast (left hand to flip bail... no trigger)
I'll get used to it. I hope.
Its a dynamite reel - in a whole different class than the Spirexes (Spirexexes? Spirex's? Spirillium? Spiri?) I've used forever.
So can't wait.
