So there is a small rod company looking to build a rod designed for float tube fishing for bass. So I ask you what do you think makes for a good float tube rod. They are looking for bass fishing rod info but I am asking what do you think for your type of fishing.

Is length important or but section length. Maybe its more about fast action vs medium action. What do you guys think. I am going to offer this info to the rod company when we have some info. I assume its going to be very subjective but that is ok bring it all to the table.

Butt length and overall length in a tube. Action is more dependent on style of fishing. Obviously we can use super long rods and but can we comfortably land fish/work the baits. My favorite length is about 6'6 to 7'. The butt can't be too long or else it affects manuverability of the rod while casting/fighting fish etc.

i recently bought a TFO "Heroes on the Water" model. (It is a beautiful rod, and they contribute to fishing programs for veterans, thus the name.) They advertise that it was made for kayakers, with a shorter butt.  I find that I really like that.    In years past I had a 6' St Croix fast action for small mouth bass fishing (stolen); and then a 6'6' Fenwick, with a moderate butt length (lost over the side.) . I liked both rods in the kayak.   I am assuming that any rod that works in a 'Yak would also be good for a tube.  My current rods are all 7', but I don't think I will buy anything longer than 6'6" in the future, and preferably 6'.

I own a few different lengths rods (6'-6", 6'-8") but I really prefer a 6-ft stix on the float tube.

I guess it would depend what Im fishing. If Im going to be fishing strucute such as the LAB A 6"6 is fine. If I need to cast the lure further out then a 7 would be better. To be honest I dont think it matters as much as the action you have on your rod for the style of fishing you may like. I prefer an extra fast tip when fishing with with soft plastics but thats just my two cents.

For somebody like me that fish in freshwater and saltwater I had to 5-foot rods made a medium with a fast tip and a heavy fast tip baitcasters for saltwater for fresh water I used a six six medium with the fast tip 7-foot medium-heavy with a fast tip and it's six-foot-five spinning rod they both work fresh or salt and I've used them both and they all work but the long ones in the freshwater I can cast further saltwater I don't need the cast that far that's just what I like my preference.

5 foot rod sounds very cool! Something in the 10 to 20lb range.

I use a 6'6" - 7'. I did not want to even go to 7' but the rod was just too tempting and I do love it. With our limited maneuverability in getting the rod out of the way to get the fish off, I would go with a rod that is no longer than 6''6" though. I think it is important to have a Fast action and M / ML power.

I like using 6 to 6'6" rods when on the tube. It is easier for me to handle and land the fish on the shorter rods. 7" is about as long as I like to go but certain situations I will bring out the 7'6" inshore rod that I have. The rods range from light action to medium depending on the rod and what I plan on doing.

For casting rods I like rods between 6 feet and 7 feet for the tube. I have a 6 foot casting rod with a 6 inch handle that I have landed 2 bass just under 5 pounds, and it is just hard work with the short handle section. So 8 to 12 inches in the handle gives enough leverage and stow ability on my tube.

My spinning rods I like 7 foot rods. I am usually tossing light lures and the length is needed to send the little lures any distance. 7 feet 6 inch and above is kind of hard to work with on the tube if I break off or need to retie line, unless it is a two piece rod.

I hope this helps.
