2 years ago I blew out my bottom vertebrae's at work, off work for months. Since then I have had back pain, well the float tube kills me. to the point i can only fish in it at most once a week so far. Here's my seat improvements so far....feels better . Few issues, back part of seat bends, base of seat slippery, I slide down. 3 improvements so far. Non Skid tape on seat, cutting board strapped to back of seat, have a belt i might use to hold me tight to seat. even thought i might have to get a maxxon for better seat and trolling motor.

I like the no skid tape on there for no slipping while on the water very cool. Hope you can improve the float tube experience for your back buddy.

instead of a cutting board, I suggest getting an empty purina cat litter box. It's rectangular, fits pretty well behind your seat and provides additional storage for jackets/food/drinks etc. Use bungee cords to secure and you'll be golden.

How does the non skid tape work so far?

I leave a 5 gallon bucket behind my seat on the Cumberland, it holds a bunch of stuff, and it does provide a little support I noticed.

I also used a bucket, round, square was better for me. If you have a cat, liter comes in square tubs. Kin has his set up that way I believe..........GT

I added strips of non slip shower stickers to the seats of our cumberlands because of the sliding issue. I recently cut some white styro insulation board and placed a piece in the seat to raise me up a bit and in the back for a bit more support, both of these helped some with the back issues (kinda mad the grip tape was just white strips, I totally would have bought butterflies or something if they had had them). I also also built a longer crossbar. This changed the dynamic of the "frame" by spreading the pontoons further and lifting the front of the seat up, which helps with the sliding as well. I'm now designing a rod holder set up, a big, squared off "U", hoping that the part going behind the seat will provide more back support. Oh, and I picked up a Colorado on Craigslist for a song lol.

I gotta get me one. At times it seems like my seat is folding in half from leaning back in it.

And I grabbed a roll of 2inch velcro strap. 1 at top and 1 on bottom. Holds it tight in place

I remember that “back-support post” and shared conversation, that’s when I added a stiffener inside of my manufactures supplied closed-cell foam back rest.

I dentally separated the two pieces of foam; that were glued together forming the back-rest, and I taco-stuffed my fiberglass-sign  stiffer in-between the two-sheets.

*It does seem to help support my lower-back; my lower Lombard area, to remain comfortable longer.
*I am still using the same 2” wide self-adhesive non-slip strips that Bob A.k.a. f4mnect started using a while back.

I also believe that whatever you use, that the non-slip will be helpful to everyone sitting on a Cumberland FT.

I was concerned about the non slip tapes in regards to wear and tear on waders. I usually don't use waders, has anyone had any issues with fraying erc on the seat of their waders?

I wear board-shorts the year-round and I sit on these non-slip strips without chaff.
