I've been planning on getting the new Bucks Bags Roughneck, but today ran across a good price on the venerable Cumberland and pulled the trigger.  I had one years ago and really liked it, so now I'm pumped!!!!!

I already have two 7 foot or so pontoon boats, and one is a Watermaster which is really light. So even though it would be really cool to have, I couldn't see what meaningful gains I would add to my current fleet with the  7 foot roughneck.  What got me looking at a tube in the first place was the simplicity and ease of storage/transport.  So for now I think I made a good choice.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to floating around my favorite lake in this cool tube!
I do, however, think I have a problem, because I can't seem to stop buying boats.......
Something to keep an eye on..

You are right the need to be portable is a big selling point about float tubes.

Congrats on the Cumberland.

Great tube and is easily carried on your back. There are way to many modifications available to view here on the forum specifically for the Cumberland.

Enjoy your time here.

Congrats on pulling the trigger on your new Cumberland ride.
I luv mine! I am currently going thru a slight “tube drought” these days ... because I’m down to just 3 tubes ... sigh! lol

I religiously mask-off the two hemispherically-rounded baffle-end-caps approx 3/4” beyond the largest round stitched-seam. I use black colored Flex-seal to coat the two hemispherical rounded end-caps and to protect it’s stitching.

I found that it works best to keep the tubes constantly inflated if you plan to spray rubber onto your baffle end-caps.
Note: Expansion and contraction loosen the sprayed-on rubber’s friction attachment.

I will normally remove and re-spray my end-caps sometimes as much as twice per year, if needed.

If you do try this, you must remember to remove the masking while the rubber is still wet and in it’s plastic state.

I honestly believe that this modification helps to make my Cumberland ride slightly more rugged without all of that added weight.

I am 5‘ 11“ tall and I shoulder carry my tube.

Have some great adventures on your new ride!  Thumbs Up

SP Dan

Dave, you are correct the Roughneck is much harder to carry than the Cumberland. I still have not developed a system for taking it out of my truck. Every time is an adventure. I would gladly listen to any advice on the subject. I am not interested in putting it on a trailer.

I very much appreciate the thoughts and advice! SP Dan, looks like quite an undertaking, but I bet the result is well worth it.
I fish a relatively small, electric motor only lake. Last week I was out in my pontoon boat and a guy shows up in a tube. He walked from the parking lot to the launch ( about 100 feet down a steep hill) all in one trip, put on his fins and was off! I had to drive down, get the toon off the car, move it to the water and then load it up, drive back to the lot, walk down and launch. I saw that guy and thought, " I gotta get me one of those.."
