So what lead you to start float tube fishing

As a kid I was the one that could not do the bait an wait. I was always moving on the shore. Climbing over the bolder and under the tree to make the one cast no one else could make. For me moving and fish just made sense, and getting to the impossible spot was always a plus. So I think when I first discovered float tube fishing I could see it was what I needed. First time out I know yep this is my style and now I have more than 25 years later if float tube fishing under my belt.

Pretty much the same story here. I was always wanting to get to a rocky point that was a tough hike, and wishing I could fish a group of reeds from the lake side instead of fighting my way in from shore. I saw a few of the old donut style tubes at Turners and bought one.

From then on I could fish spots unreachable from the shore.

My first tube was a Browning Predator that O found at a play it again sports. I was working on an ambulance when I found it. All I needed to get on the water for $75. I dropped the money and stuffed it in the side compartment next to the on board Oxygen Tank. It was a 24 hour shift so I had to wait for what felt like for ever till I could get it all set up and on the water.

I was in a surffishing club called SWAT and one of my fellow members’ was also a member here on FTFF and goes by the name Jason.
I told him that the spotted bay bass was still on my bucket list … and he went on to say … “hey, let’s go spotted bay bass fishing in the NPH!
It sounded intriguing and kind of scary at the same time, to trust a pool toy in deep waters!
So I ended up buying an outcast and on my maiden-voyage in Newport Harbor with Jason, I landed a 25 inch a legal Halibut and I haven’t stopped float tube fishing ever since!
I believe I’m going on six years right now. I ride a Cumberland.

Oh yes, and I did catch spotted bay bass that day!
