Fished for a few hours sat and sun. Perfect weather , water cool but warming up. Winds still an issue but fishable early.
One bite sat at China Island . Ugly freshwater sculpin.
Sun hit South shore bay and picked a few smallmouth. Forgot how hard these guys fight. One jumped eye level [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Looks awesome. I fished the south fork of the American River last summer for trout. I couldn't keep those sculpin off my hook long enough to catch a trout.

Lived in Davis 86-90 and fished American and Sacramento rivers many times. Salmon, steelhead, stripers and huge shad.

They check for Quagga
If there is any moisture, they will decontaminate
Just make sure everything is dry when you get float tube permit

Mega bass dark sleeper one of my go to baits up here
Spotted Bay Bass love them too
