So... I'll be hitting up NPH this Saturday with my buddy. It's been over a month since I've fished NPH and at that time I didn't need the waders.

Is the water still warm enough to go waderless? If not, are you guys sporting shorts or long pants in your waders? lol These questions might sound funny, but an extra layer of clothing in waders on a day that is warm can be sweaty. Razz

Waders are great. Regardless helps prevent cramps staying warm. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

I've seen about 50/50 out in NPH the last few weeks. With the water temps between 66 - 68 I do waders just to stay comfortable in the early morning. I usually stay until about 11:00 cos then I have to piss and I'm out.
I'll most likely launch Saturday from CGS around 6:30 am to catch the incoming 10:05 high tide so maybe see you guys out kickin around. Good Luck out there!

lol I've had days where ditching the waders would've been a good idea. Ever had sweat soaked underwear? lol!!! Razz

Sir, you are tough. But, I think the winter water temps may convince you to buy a pair of waders.

lol you can hold your pee in for a while. Thanks Pacifico. The Coast Guard Station is ok, but there are better spots in NPH to launch from.

I like wear waders for the convenience and comfort, regardless. I haven't had too much of a problem being sweaty. I think it's still warm enough for just shorts underneath, maybe a heavier weight cotton short would be appropo if you get cold easily.  In the dead of summer, lightweight cotton shorts (not board shorts) is what I wear underneath. In winter, I like midweight baselayer (think Patagonia Capilene or any other synthetic long underwear) because it's warm and wicks away moisture. Also, since it has elastic cuffs at the bottom, they don't roll up (like pants) which it makes them easy to put on. I wear waders for winter time surf fishing as well. Just so much nicer to get out dry, without sand all over on a balmy low 50's morning. Summertime, I need the sand between my toes though.

I learned to flyfish in Truckee and it sometimes gets cold enough to freeze your line in the guides. That's when the 3mm neopremes come out!  Actually, they're kind of useless now.  Layering options and breathable waders make for a more useful combo.
