I can't afford a fat cat, I'm about to have a baby any day now,but I have the white river lost U boat type and I hate being belly deep in the water. I was thinking about putting a floatation set in it and strapping it down. Does anyone know of a better way.

Well I will be the first to say congrats on the up coming arrival of the baby I hope all goes well there for you . Also Welcome to the Boards Thumbs Up How about introducing yourself and let us know where your from . I maybe able to put you onto a great deal on a tube .

As far as putting a floatation device on the U Boat I think you will more then likely Cause the Taco Effect to that tube and thus causing it to be a nightmare .

Welcome to the boards tube titan!!
I used a doughnut style belly boat for years, till the seams split to be more accurate. There are some great used tubes that show up for sale here and on Craigslist/Ebay just keep your eyes open.

First off, Congrats.

Second, Welcome.

Third, your tube - it'll depend on a few things.  You won't have any free time soon and with a kid you might not want to fish much anyway  Shocked Arrow  ZZZZZZZ    If you have a son, you won't be tubing 'til you take him out tubing with you so you can get a new one then.  Or if you have a girl... you'll be buying a shotgun Evil or Very Mad (that's the look you give to the boy taking her to her first dance.)

Hope you figure out a solution in the mean time.

Jerdon - you mean your donut wanted to become a u-boat?!?!?! lol!

Welcome to the boards tube titan!!and congrats buddy.

chipmcd, lol!

as for your tube, well there is always different ways to get a new one or used one. go to craigslist or even on facebook and try to work something out with someone that is selling one but if you cant, like chipmcd said.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with trying to find fishing time after your baby is born. Fat Cats are cool but you know they co$t a lot the ODC420 is cheaper and good or my favorite the Cumberland still cheaper and rock solid. so my advise is take your time look around then buy a Cumberland. See you on the water

Don't know if they are any good but this might be a good budget tube that will keep you higher out of the water as it seems that's what your looking for

Seems like a good tube for the money Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I have one of those. It's a good bang for the buck. The backrest kinda sucks but I remedied it with a box in back. It kinda keeps you out of the water. Expect to have about an inch or two, but definitely much higher than any u shaped tube. Too bad they are sold out too...i was looking into buying another one too.

ok, so I am not going to steer you to buying a new tube, after all you didn't ask for that. what you want is to go to Walmart and pick up the throw-able flotation seats for boats and canoes. they are about 14" square, they have handles on opposite sides, I think I paid 14 bucks each.
you fit them by placing the cushion on the seat of your inflated tube with the handles positioned fore and aft, then using one of the aluminum carabiners the sell at walmart for like 0.75 you attach the handles to each other under the seat. Depending on your weight you can even stack them.
I used this system for a year and a half and it worked great.
