Ie have been told that putting braid on the older Penn reels is not good because it will "pop" the spool? Actually will cause the spool to blow out. Even on the metal spools. Has anyone heard of this before? I know people that back all their Penns with spectra and so forth and I have never heard of this. This info came out of Sav On tackle. Took a Jigmaster and a Senator in for line and they told me not to back it with anything but mono. Just curious. study

I have never heard of this but they I think should know. Sounds kind of wierd though, I am interested in seeing what everyone else has to say.

What happens is when you fill a reel with braid it needs to be put on under some pressure. Too much pressure especially on the older spools and it can snap. It's better to just stay with mono or flouro on the older reels. Plus, if you think 300 yard spools of spectra is expensive check out the 500yd. spool.

Hope that shed a little light on the subject

Yes it did ODC. I have been reading various arguments online about this. Even one person quoted a Penn contact person on the matter. My reels are all loaded with mono and frankly, with these reels I think mono is more forgiving than braid anyway. I had just never heard this one before. But then, just when you think you heard it all... Shocked
