Went to Santa Ana River Lakes yesterday with some cousins. Fished from the bank.
Got there a couple hrs late, my cousins didnt wake up on time. We got lines in the water by 10:30.
Winds were harsh. I cant say how fast. But enough blow our chairs into the water more than once. The lake was so packed by the time we got there that the only spot to fish was from Cliff Shore. The right side of the lake. Against the wind. But the whole lake was on fire so it didnt matter.
even for getting there a lil late we made out with 3 beautiful lightning trout.
the party on our right made out with about 14 between 8 poles.
the party on our left made out with about 6 between 4 poles.
Both parties were using powerbait.
Myself and one of my cousins caught ours on the crawler/mallow combo. My other cousin used powerbat Garlic. Casting about 10 ft out. From what i can tell there a shelf there. I felt it with some lures i was tossing. And the trout were hanging there. No one was casting far. Always about 10 ft out. 1 ft leaders. Carolina rig.
After the wind died down so did the bite. Which was about 1pm i believe.
I drove around the lake and saw stringers all over. With the best sizes being by the Marina.
but the biggest stringer was brought in by the party next to us.
