Just opened a Cumberland for myself and got one for my son too. Quite impressed by the quality and even more, the design.

Two questions:

1. Is a change of the valve possible? I much prefer a Robert Halkey style valve compared to the Boston valve.

2. I do not see a psi rating. Anyone know? The instruction say 'do not over inflate' but that means nothing if we do not have an official psi rating.

I'm tempted to inflate to 2.5 psi which should be the proper psi for crafts like these.

I don't know if you can change the valve. I've never heard of this but it might be possible. I also just use the finger test when inflating. I inflate to a firmness where I can push on the tube and my index finger is able to push in a bit. I want it firm but not overly much to put pressure on the bladders to explode if heated up. I think of it like screwing a screw in place. Firm but not enough pressure to strip it.

Thank you David. That makes sense. However, I would prefer to have a psi. With PVC crafts, 3 psi gets to be quite firm and rigid. The challenge with finger test is that it is more subjective as different fingers, different strength, etc. I suppose that it will float even underinflated but the efficiency in moving through the water drops if the tube flexes. The less flex, the more efficient.

Does their replacement bladder come with valves installed or are the valves removable from the bladders and reused?

I would love to hear more user thoughts.

The finger or thumb test has always worked for me. You will get the sense of what is right after the first few times out. But I agree it would be nice to know the PSI I hope we can find that info.
