Has anyone launched their tube from the hand launch at Redondo lately?

Is it a decent place for a first timer?

I'm not planning on fishing. Just want to kick around and get a feel for the tube and Redondo is 15 min. away.

Other suggestions other than there?
I live in Torrance.

Thanks!

you may want to dbl check befor going but I dont think you can tube there or kayak.
I know I read somewhere its boat/motor only.
you may want to call harbor patrol and make sure befor going.
You can always give the LAB a try. That would only be like maybe 30mins away depending on traffic

Me and a few buddies would dive the canyon right next to the peer and we would swim out from the beach all the time with our round free diving tubes and pull lines. We never had anyone say anything and had diving meets with up to 20 divers at once. It's really nice because there is metered parking about 50 yards away so getting the gear to the water was pretty easy.

Lght, are talking about veterans park? If so I help teach deep diving there, entry on a tube would be rough and heck of a kick.

I know for sure that kayaks are allowed because they rent them there.
I can't remember for sure, but I think I recall seeing tubes there while returning from a fishing trip on a friend's boat on the way back to his slip.

Yeah right next to the pier. I'm their all the time since my bro owns the bar on the pier and most the time we dive it's pretty flat.

Looking into getting a scuba cert since i'm too fat and old to free dive anymore lol.

So I went over to King Harbor today to check things out
The small boat hand launch is in front of the Seaside Lagoon.
You park near the short pier and take the path to the right of the pier
I didn't take the tube but did take some pictures

This is looking at the dock
It looks to be about waist deep on the sides of the dock
To the left there is sand with some scattered rocks but shallow enough to get into your tube
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This is looking out into the harbor from the same position as the previous pic
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Looking at the launch area from the north
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Looking at Rocky Point from in front of Joe's Crab Shack
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The rest of the main harbor from the same position
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I didn't see any tubers there nor peps fishing from their kayaks
The water was super clear
I think fishing would be better at night because of the clean water
I sent an e-mail to the harbor division to check if tubes are allowed there.
I will post up when I find out for sure

One thing to watch out for, parking can get costly without a validation
I hear that there is a validation machine in one of the bars to the left of the parking lot (near where the sport boats are tied up) or hit up one of the other businesses and see if they will validate. If you patronize them, it should not be a problem

Great info.! I'm curious what the harbor patrol has to say.

Wow I didn't know that thanks for the offer. The old lady got me a scuba training class for xmas when they where running some type of groupon deal. I think it was $300 for everything accept for the cost of the boat dives. I'll have to give you call once I get my cert since I will also need gear.

Okay, got the answer to whether flot tubing is allowed in King Harbor:

"Sorry but float tubes are not allowed in the harbor as they are considered swimming devices and not vessels" sent by John Pickens of redondo.org
No No No
Bummer since it's so close by

You guys tubed at MDR without issues didn't you?
That would be another harbor that's fairly close to me.

I fished MDR with a few other members and it was pretty good. Although I got skunked a few other members got plenty of fish and even a small WSB if I recall. I would be interested in fishing it again.
