Hi,
I'm new to this site so if this topic has been covered in the past I'm sorry for the repeat.
I've been using a pair of caddis fins for the past 15 years. They've been fine and don't owe me a thing but I'm looking for more speed and power. The force fins sound great but are a bit out of my price range. Can I find a high performance fin in the $100.00 range that will give me more speed than my Caddis fins? I'd prefer a fin that can go over a wading boot or boot foot wader.
Thanks,
Phil

I can't seem to ever find HotSpot fins. Turner's used to have them...where do you get them now?

IMHO Force fins are way over rated, and not worth the $$, Mares diving/snorkeling fins work much better and cost way less.

Sports Chalet has a good assortment of them, I opted for the 60.00 race fins, they offer lots of power, but require a lot of power to get you going a decent pace.

BTW, ask anyone I float tube with, i.e. sonarbp,Itchybass, or Jeff and ask if I can kick fast enough, even at 63 yrs. young, I can still keep up with the young whipper snappers.. lol!

Yeah I don't like hot spot or force fins at all. They are way to short. The length does help your maneuverability allowing you to turn faster and easier, but you loose a LOT of power because they are so short. I use a pair of dive fins and do a round bicycle kick that allows me to get from A-B a lot easier with a lot less strain on my legs or cramping. This is a LOT more helpful in tides and wind then being able to maneuver.

Fins...fins...always a personnel choice really. I have the Mares fins. I started out with them. As for cost? Well, just depends where you do your shopping. My Mares were 80 bucks. My Ffins were free. Ha ha...so there ya go. Tube plays into fin performance. How much leg in the water...tube rocker...angle of the dangle. That's why I say it's such a personnel choice. Once you have your combo dialed in it's just like anything else...just works for you.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
waxon67,you make a good point, I guess it does make a difference depending on what tube or boat you have. I'm fishing from a Hobie float cat 60 so I'm riding pretty high,I'm only submerged from the knees down. I still don't know what fin will be best for me. I'm going to go to a dive shop next week and check them out.

if you have a sports Chalet, they have a nice assortment to choose from. I would get the lest expensive ones possible.

ed5000x, that's a nice offer, I wish I could take you up on it. Unfortunatly I live on the other coast. People do tube here but it's not even close to the tube community you guys have in your area.

I recommend the Omega Flip Fin. However, $149. is the cheapest I see right now. I got mine during a buy one get one free at $169.
I still have my Force Fins but have not used them for two years since I got these Omegas.
Specially if you have a tube. Hit the button at the toe of the fin with your other heel and it flips up. Easy to walk right in and out of the water. To put them back down, just a strong kick un the water.

I really like those fins wish I could afford a pair, very cool the way they flip up. I have been trying to find a pair at a decent price.

Does it burn your quads as your kicking?

I have Aeris Mako dive fins. They are fairly long, but you can cover quite a distance without a lot of effort. They can be a bit awkward in tight spaces, but for long kicks they are great. Price was about 60 bucks.
