Went out this morning to a local POLA spot. I have a buddy who just got into fishing seriously now. No more pier fishing for him. So i'm taking him under my wing and teaching the guy some skills in the art of catching fish. So we've been taking it slow starting with perch, then bass and halibut. Showing him rigs, knots and tactics. Right now since the season is ending were just gonna be float tubing, next year I'm gonna set him up with some boat trips. Rockfishing and offshore...I wanna take it slow right now. I didn't learn everything over night.
This morning we were gonna fish Cabrillo but since it was raining I knew my concrete jungle would shelter me from the elements. We kicked through a light sprinkle, by the time we got to our destination we were a little soaked. No biggie. Right away we dropped our lines into the water and started to nail some slab perches! Also this morning he learned a valuable lesson of why we loosen the drag on the reels. He had a huge Sargo on his line, had him at the top of the water! Even I was impressed by how big the fish was. Before i can net him it still had some fight and took another run! Busted off his line! Shyt, oh well,.. Little did I know that's how I entire fishing trip would be! We were hooking big fish left and right, they wanted to fight this morning! Now we were using 12# fluro, but it wasn't enough...lots of heart breaks this morning! Oh well, that's fishing...like my friend said... The fish are all like "Oh, you think the water is your ally? You merely adopted the ocean, we were born in it, molded by it." LOL How true is that statement. Next time I'm gonna go in a little heavier, work it a little harder...gotta show him we all lose big, but if we keep coming back...it will pay off big! I know this for a fact,.. \m/
Hope you like the pics,..
It doesn't matter what fish we catch, what matters is that were catching fish,..
