I want to get a new camera for the outdoors but dont know anything about them.
I want something that can be used at night and be able to take videos.
I know everyone uses GoPros but they suck at night, is there anything else out there that dosent cost arm & leg.
Right now I am using my IPhone and it works great but looking for other options.

Thanks for any info or ideas

Unfortunately not a lot out there that can film in the dark miller (to the best of my knowledge). Some of the older video cameras used to have an infared light and could film in as low as 1 or 2 lux, with a limited range.(Sony calls this mode Super NightShot, while Panasonic calls it 0Lux MagicPix.)
These would be ok for night capture on a FT, but down side is they are bulky and capture turns to black and white.
You may have to experiment a bit with an IR illuminator with a reasonable voltage (12) that you can use on the FT and try it with different capture recorders, as some may work with it others may not. Like this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Failing that something with its own bright light source such as a digital camera that takes night shots and video if you have to have colour.
Your Iphone sounds ok.

motorazr is right, although before I made my camera seleccion did my reaserch and found Contour better than GoPro but i guess is a matter of opinion. what I like about Contour:
-Its low profile design.(tube shaped Vs bulky square) can be fixed to goggles strap. perfect for scuba diving
-vertical laser line for aming and alineing (cuz the lens rotates 180)
-GPS (shows where on the map you where)
-bluethoot (pair with phone to view as monitor)
-water proof to 10ft with no housing and 130ft with housing
-very tough constructed (one was found 1 year later after an avalanche accident and still worked)
-simple on/off swith ( no stand by mode means no guess work and longer battery life)
-And because of its shape i can ziptie an LED tube shaped flash light togather and works perfect on the dark! For some reason I cant up load pics here but if you are interested to see how it works let me know. here`s a link

Thanks Eddie, what one do you have? Also with the LEDs do you get good night videos. I wanna be able to mount it to the tube for our ninja sessions and seeing how I do 80% ninja fishing this would really come in handy. Next time we fish bring it if you don't mind, I would like to check it out

I have contourRoam but wanna get contourRoam2 (the only dif is a lock on the switch to prevent accidental turn on) but I would recomend for you contour+2 is not water proof but comes with a housing for 130ft underwater video. But then with the housing it gets a little havier and bulky to wear on the head. So you can use a mount to fis it on your road holder or somthing. And it has bluethoot and GPS. I will being it next time. Or maybe shoot a demo video for you.

this is probably the best setup.. but I think it's hella expensive, at Ragecams.com
but check out this sweet night fishing video:

You can get the IR strobes on Amazon or Samy's Camera. I think the video uses Sima,
but Polaroid makes a similar one at Samy's. Supposedly, any point-n-shoot digital camera can be modified to remove the IR filter, so that the camera will pick up IR light. Voila.. instant IR night vision camera. That would probably be way cheaper than a modified GoPro... but takes some tech skill that I might not have, and also wouldn't be waterproof.
