Kern River Question

I have a friend going fishing at the Kern River he is asking what to us there. I have never been so I ask you guys how should he fish the Kern River. Keep in mind he is a novice fisherman, borrowing some tackle from me for the weekend.

I think some parts of that river are "barbless only" not 100% though...

Keep it Simple. Use a Woolly Bugger and a splitshot with 2-4lb test on a spinning rod

Right now the water is warm and fishing is tough below the fairview powerhouse.
Fish above the fairview powerhouse for colder water and more fish
The woolly Bugger will out fish most everything is the Kern
and using it on a spinning rod with light line is more effective than a fly rod

if using spinning gear

ill second salmon eggs drifted with split shot about 12-15 inches above
size 10 gamakatsu baitholder or egg hook or owner mosquito hook
same size

also crickets work really well i have a friend who knows the hatchery manager very well and he told me yesterday no stocking for at least three weeks water is still too warm and they put the order in for fish a month ahead of time but not until the water gets down to survivable trout water

depending on where on the kern he is going will really depend on the best
setup

its my home water along with lake isabella and i can be on it in about 20 minutes

fishing has been pretty hit and miss but he might do ok if he hits the right area
