Well my friend Scott Surletta and I met up with Brandonfish at Alamitos bay last night about 8pm. Our plan was to hit the bass bite during the incoming tide. So we got the gear ready and we were off. First spot was some structure near the mouth of the harbor... Let me tell ya the current was ripping. Being that my legs are still a little tired from tubing Dana Point on Sat and then our gathering on sunday not to mention a tuesday trip to Puddingstone lake I had no chance with the current. so I allowed it to push me to some inner harbor docks. Just as we start connecting with some really nice sandbass I realize that my left side is completely deflated !!! I leave the others and kick my butt off accross the entire channel as I lean all my weight to the right side. On my tube I had about $1000 in fishing gear plus my video set up for filming. And my priceless self too. It was not the most comforting paddle but I made it accross.. But I did learn something...First of all someone should have accompanied me during the crossing, leave your ego at home and be sure you are always as safe as possible. Statistics show that 60% of drowning victims are good swimmers. Never leave your wingman!!! a lesson from Top Gun. PFD's can fail and once you get them waders filled with water your sinking like a stone. And something I will start doing is having a spare set of air cells with me. Cars have spare tires I will carry spare cells from here on out. We did manage about 20 + bass between us three so at least we caught fish.
