I see videos on YouTube all the time of guys using home made junk for boat motors. My favorite is the weed eater head with a cordless drill attached to the shaft. I would have an easier time in my tube if I could just go forward. Also I wonder if anyone has ever seen or used a MONOFIN. Would like to hear about any ideas, or modifications to your tube to serve the forward mobility problem. The last thing I'm going to do, is add another tube with trolling motor and battery, just seems to defeat the purpose of float tubing, plus in KY, I'll have to pay taxes and register my tube as a real boat, CRAZY!!!!!.

I carry a oar with me whenever I'm in a tubing situation that requires extra speed, e.g. ocean, strong winds. I started a thread a little while back asking about installing oar mounts onto a tube. It is possible, but I've been too cheap to get the materials for it. On my previous few trips I kicked and used a single oar to back paddle. It propelled me much faster than usual.

My thread.

I haven't tried this yet, but I might use a kayak paddle when I need to travel some distance. I could put a Blakemore rod floater on it in case I dropped it. I could store it behind the seat and just use it when I need it.

A good pair of fins will help best with propulsion. Carrying too much crap can make for an uncomfortable outing. All this extra stuff can be bulky and weigh you down. Just my 2 cents.

I agree in a way. I think they are two completely different things though. It's like comparing a Lotus Elise to a Muscle Car. I will be catfishing in my toon, in a pretty nasty reservoir. For catfishing, I will need to use two anchors so I can properly tight line. I also need solid rod holders bolted to the frame, I have a lot of work to do.

Either way, I needed something closer to an actual "boat", and it is the only way I can have one living in an apartment. Dry dock fees, and replacing a gas motor are pricey as well.

I am also pretty impressed with how stealth a toob is, and think I will get one next year for bass  Razz
