My first tube was a Caddis Navigator that just has a piece of nylon fabric for a seat like most less expensive models. After about 4 hrs on the water your butt gets tired from setting so low and your legs become numb. I found an old Umpire's chest protector at a flea market for $2. It is made out of extremely dense foam much like the new bow targets but much denser. I removed the cover and cut it to size with a hack saw blade. I strapped it to the BOTTOM of the tube seat, because on top just didn't work as well. The foam floats so good that it keeps you sitting higher up and comfortable all day. I never even bothered but I guess I could have covered the foam and the seat both with nylon , but it has never worn out. For those future tubers looking to buy there first, I would spend a little more money and start with a tube equipped with a foam seat. You will be more comfortable, and sit higher in the water.
