Ok I am looking for some information on some camping sites that would be worth trying this summer. We will do Serrano Camp Ground in Big Bear, but I am looking for a few other places to try.
There is a problem, my wifes asthma high altidue are not good for here and we need to try and keep here from to much grass and or pine trees. That is a problem for sure. We are going to try Big Bear this summer it has been about 5 years now sence our last camping trip hope it goes ok. Does anyone have a spot that they are willing to share with us.

Thanks guys.

Jeff,

Maybe your family should try some beach camping. It is the same has any other camping but just at beach locations. I have been many times. Our local area is right outside of Dana Point. Up north about 1.5 hours is the Santa Barbara area. El Capitan is where I have been a few times. Not too many trees and a clean ocean breeze. I will get some links for you in a bit.

I want to ad, if ya'll plan a camping trip this summer and you are having family and or friends join you, I would personally love to go. I am single and will be by myself. My family is not up for camping anymore as my younger brother has other interests now. I love to camp, and I love to cook. A shore lunch is one of my favorites. I'm just throwing this out there if you guys plan a family and friends camping trip!

Dano has got it right on! PLUS... bring a spinning rod with some 4 to 6LB line and you will be AMAZED with how many fish you will catch! Its a family thing, you can have your kids dig for sand crabs so you can use them for bait! Barred Surf Perch, Corbina, Yellowfin Croakers, Halibuts, Spotfin Croakers are just a few that live in them surf!

I have recently gone to Oak Flats camp ground. There are a lot of trees but mostly oak trees. Not many pine trees at all. Elevation is only like 2000ft. Camp sites are ok, they have concrete benches and fire pits on every one. There is only one restroom with pit potties. Those could be better but you are close to pyramid lake and can take a cruse up there and spend a day on the lake, (rent a boat or something). Its up the grape vine after Castaic but before Pyramid lake.

Just FYI.

Ohh yeah, camping is FREEEEEEEE with an adventure pass. Thumbs Up

U use and adventure pass every time u go to a Forestry trail head. U get it at the ranger station. A one day pass is 5bucks, a year one is 30. Its just a little thing u put on your window.
I use mine mostly during hunting season, and when u fish lake hemet u need one to park.

Jeff if you want to try a place not too far from civilization, not too full of pine trees and not high altitude you might want to try taking the family to Oneil Park for a weekend camping experiment.

It's over by Trabuco Creek so if they stock it you can fish up there but otherwise the park has no where to fish. Plus side is if it turns out camping is not working out you are not far from civilization or home for that matter. Or if you don't feel like cooking you can hit town only 5 minutes away and get a meal. It's not a way out in the boonies camping area more of a day use park that has camping and facilities. You can drive there and check it out first and see if it will fit your needs.
