Hello all.

I'm looking at getting into making soft lures and I was looking at the Do-It Essential Series Molds.  Is this a good mold to use or does someone with experience have a better suggestion? Also, anyone know of a website or a sponsor of this site that sells these molds/supplies?

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking into doing hand pours or injection molding? If you want to do just hand pours to start it's easy to make molds out of plaster of Paris or rtv silicone. Plaster is cheap but rtv makes a better mold. Most people start with plaster. You will want to find an old microwave to heat the plastisol in. Do not use the one you use for food. It's fairly easy to get a free old microwave if you do some searching. Get yourself some Pyrex measuring cups to pour with. Again these should be dedicated solely to plastic making. Do all of this outside or in a well ventilated garage. You will want some good heat resistant gloves because the Pyrex gets hot and the plastisol gets hotter. Safety first!

As far as obtain your plastic just shop around for the best deal. Most people just order online. Order some dye of your favorite colors and some glitter while you're at it. Don't use craft store glitter. That stuff melts and is not compatible with plastic making.

If you have a local tackle store that makes plastics or a local bait maker try talking with them. I get my plastic from a tackle shop that pours a lot of plastics. They buy it in 50 gallon drums and will sell me a gallon if I need it. I just bring a clean and empty bleach bottle and glass eye dropper bottles for dyes.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube on everything from mold making to pouring and injecting.
