I don't see anything here that my 3.6 oz FF can't do.
And at times .... I've been known to have gotten lucky ... and caught a few as well!
Tight lines everyone!

I have a Lowrance 4x, 6 years old.......nice ff but their is no tilt to the screen. If your into the sun it wipes out the screen. My next one has to tilt and or pivot. ..........GT

If you still like Lowrance, their low end Hook models in 4" and 5" have a tilt and swivel quick release bracket. They sport sonar, down scan and charting. The higher level Elite Ti models with touch screen in 5" and 7" (mine) have the same bracket and with the TotalScan transducer adds side scan capabilities. Not sure about other brands.

Hunt, since you have experience with all three, I'm curious... all other considerations aside, which style would you choose if you could only use one. Which one do you feel does the best job (stand alone) of helping you catch fish? Would you choose, sonar, downscan, or sidescan?

I agree with Hunt on a FF either lowrance or Hummingbird with sonar / down imaging .. either of these units if you dual screen you can 100% tell exactly what you are looking at and that is the whole purpose to find structure , if you are using a fish finder to find fish and marks , your doing it wrong

My experience with side scan is just a few trips but I am hopeful it will enhance my location of structure and possibly fish around me. I think a good fish finder would have both down scan and sonar since they both show things differently and complement each other in side by side usage. Fortunately even units around $199 can do both, in color, and with charting included. I think a lot of people think a smaller unit is best for tubes but I started with a 4" unit and the screen size is on the small side to show 2-3 panels of info. A 5" (Hook 5) FF is better but I am finding 7" (Elite 7 Ti) is better and doesn't get in the way.

Well, I am building another pole holder setup for my buddy and this will give me lots to ponder. He wants my humming bird FF. So I can look for another FF at our local Bass Pro in a week or so before we head back to Bishop in July. Thanks for the sleepless nights.

If you are referring to me, glad to steal your sleep anytime. Look for sales. I know some Lowrance models have rebates, I just received mine ($100) finally today.

On my Cumberland I have a Garmin 4 CV mounted with a Fish Finder mount set up. It’s awesome. I could not make a DIY mount cheaper then buying one. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

We got this comment on FB earlier today.
Rich Morgan I recently bought the lowrance elite 7 ti. I love the unit full of features. The touch screen is super easy to navigate. The side/downscan opens up the lake. Shows so much detail. The 7" screen is much better. You can open 4 displays at once. Get the navionocs platinum chip also. 3d gpa is awesome. This unit is a little more than the hook. But we'll worth it.

I also use the Float Tube Fanatics mount with my Hook 5. Another great option with the Hook 5 is the Genesis mapping option that allows you to make your own maps.

Here are a few items to consider when looking for a fish finder. I think all brands offer the same main features like 2D sonar, side scanning, down scanning and GPS charting. There are differences too. Garmin's down scan is not exactly that: Hummingbirds seem to be ok but for me there is too much bezel and not enough screen. Lowrance has touchscreens on most models and that is the deal maker for me. You can never go back after using a touchscreen for feature selections, waypoints etc. It is so much faster and easier, I could never go back to using left, right up, down buttons. Sometimes it's just the 'other' things that make it or break it.
