Depending on the weight and the price it could be the next evolution in float tubing

Seems like a solution without a problem for me, personally.  It's 12lbs of weight + battery. 

It's for trolling, which, for the places I go, I consider to be a restful part of my sessions. 

Where I need help is when I have to push hard, not when I'm cruising along enjoying the quiet solitude. Maybe once or twice a session I have to push hard for some reason, like to avoid boat traffic, otherwise, I'm cruising along and barely exerting myself. I don't need a motor to reduce that to zero exertion.

I'm sure there are people whose situation is different and it might make sense for them, but for me, if I'm going to step up to a motor, I'm going to get a SeaEagle 285FPB and a small gas outboard.

Well I could have used it yesterday at HH. Tide started coming in strong around 0930. I had to cut my session short, just don't have it in me to hassle strong current. Getting to the spot, the bridge, would be a breeze. To cruise over to the island at Perris, having it to help with the wind. I would fish bigger lakes. Was leaning toward a pontoon with trolling motor, but maybe this is the way to go.......GT

To Fight the wind at SWL

The  SeaEagle 285FPB  is $900 or so. A cheap outboard from WallyWorld runs $260 and up. If I am spending a thousand bucks it will be on a used boat I can put my grandkids in.

I have kicked to the south side of Alessandro island at Perris. There are too many good fishing spots along the way for me to pass up for the amount of energy spent. However, in the $200 -$300 price range if  I could attach an engine to my float tube, it is a go.

I could not figure out the price of that thing from the link.

The Amazon listing says "can hold 32 to 36 pound thrust trolling motors."


Now we're talking something seriously useful.

Thanks for all the input I remember the floatpower from when I first got into the float tube world. I agree what a great product. This new product the Float Pro seems to be a lighter and more compact version. Maybe it does not have a lot of power but it might be able to provide some simple power when needed. Keep the comments coming.

Another motor targeted to kayaks and costs $750 or more.
It looks like the Float Power and any old trolling motor is most affordable, but clunky.

And remember, in Calif. you now need a CF number if you use mechanical propulsion.

I'm with u Jerdon....both PP and Bixby r over 1k. And it would be interesting to find out what lithium batteries replacement costs r....the donut, motor and battery around $350......GT

Being a military diver I can fin farther than most, but I see some good application for it.

On larger bodies of water it could be used to power several miles out allowing most folks to fish back vice the round trip greatly increasing most folks fishing area.

Additionally, just the increased self confidence and safety it would provide some, as in the event of an injury it would provide propulsion back to shore.

If in fact it is $1400 USD, that would make it much less of a useful item.

So they are working on the price i am sure $1400 is not the cost. I just like finding new items and ideas and this is i feel pretty cool. Maybe in the near future we could as a forum do some test runs with this.

If the motor is what they say it is (240W), then none of their claims add up on the face of it. 240W @ 12V is a whopping 20 amps! Consider that your house probably has 15 amp circuits and you start to get an idea of how much juice this thing pulls.

Their battery is 41.6 Ah, which means 2 hours of service at 220W, not the six hours of trolling they claim. If they're getting six hours of life, they're running at something like 34% of capacity and that 25 lbs of thrust they claim just became 9 lbs. You can't hide from the math.

Taken individually, the numbers can be true, but as a whole, the way it is being presented, no way.

Personally, I think 25 lbs of thrust for 2 hrs would actually be useful, but I'm leery of their snake oil approach to tech info and I suspect the price isn't going to come down much in the US market. Those high capacity LI-Ion batteries are wicked expensive.

I saw this thing in action at the Fred Hall show. I was very impressed. They had it at $1200.00 for the best kit and $900.00 for the lower model. The battery pack was all new Tech. Very light.

Ya it is light i think less then 15 lbs that is pretty pricie though. I hope they can come up with a better price.

I agree with your assessment. I will say 9lb of thrust would be very usable for an average float tube.

My 18' bass boat had an 80lb Minn Kota and at 30% (24lb) it would move it pretty dang good, and the boat fully loaded with gear was over 2500lbs.

Should be interesting but they really need to work their price point. For now, it is the old fin drive for me.
