Hello Everyone,
I have been lurking since joining this forum a couple of weeks ago, so I thought it was time I introduced myself. My name is Bryon, and I live and fish in the great state of Michigan. Way back in 1997 when I first moved here, I bought a Caddis Nevada float tube, and used it for many happy years. I finally sold it in 2014 to help finance the purchase of my fishing kayak. I LOVE the kayak, but I’ve found that there are times when I miss my tube—namely those times when I want to fish someplace that’s too far out in the boonies to trailer in a 100+ lb. kayak!
So, I’m here to gather information. It’s been a long time since I shopped for tubes, and things have changed. For one thing, I’m a bigger guy than I was back then, and I’d like a tube with a higher weight capacity this time. Also, there are lots more styles of float tubes available now, and, since I’m slightly less poor than I was 20 years ago, I’d like to get a little bit nicer one this time around, too.
I’ll save my specific questions for the appropriate areas of the forum; for now I’m just saying “hi” and I’m glad to be here!

Welcome Bryon! Glad to have you here and can't wait to see what you're catching!

I've only been tubing for about a year, so I've only ever used one tube, the Super Fat Cat by Outcast. I love it. It's a bit of a tank, but I'm a big guy and I like the stability and toughness. If it is one that you're considering, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I really enjoy the Cumberland it works great and it hold I think up to 300lbs. Also 7 Bass is going to be selling there float tubes on Amazon very soon. I will see if there are weight ratings on there tubes, they will be a little price but they might be a cool option.

Welcome Bryon,

Being that I am maybe the biggest guy on the forum at 6'3" and 325 lbs, I went with the Cumberland float tube. It has a weight capacity of 350 lbs. With my gear and myself i'm sure i'm close if not over the recommended load and she doesn't even struggle. The good news is going out and kicking against the ocean currents for 5-6 hours on Saturdays I've already dropped a pants size in a month. Very Happy I do it for the exercise ... at least that's what I tell my wife wink wink.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! I appreciate the feedback on the various tubes as well. It is encouraging to see that the Cumberland gets so many positive reviews; that is one of the tubes I'm giving a good hard look right now.

Ornery Bob I have considered both the Fish Cat 4 and the Super Fat Cat -- I have to tell you, though, it makes me wince a little to think of buying a product with the word "fat" right in the name lol Very Happy
I'm also intrigued by the new Fish Cat 5 -- it appears to be kind of a Fish Cat 4 on steroids--a little larger with a 300 lb. capacity-- and I know the Fish Cat 4 is one of the most beloved tubes on the market, for good reason.

Good to be here with you guys. Smile
