3rd Grip Holster mounting on a Float Tube?

Hey all,

I have one of those 3rd Grip holsters and actually brought it with on today's outing. I couldn't figure out the best way to mount it so I looped it over the back of my seat. It was annoying having to reach behind every time to grab it though. Per [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] they say it is float tube compatible of course with no pictures. I figure you could slide it horizontally over one of the sides but it doesn't seem like the bottom strap would be big enough to wrap around.

Anyway, was curious if anyone else has a 3rd grip and uses it with their float tube and if so how you're mounting it. At some point I'll probably build or buy some more rod holders or a rod holder system but just starting out I don't want to trick out the float tube just yet beyond getting used to it with what I have.

I don't have one, but if you are dedicated to using this I have an idea to try.

Put 2 straps around your tube, they will provide the vertical support you need. Then find a horizontal spacer for your 3rd grip to simulate you waist or calf. This should keep the spacers steady by spreading them apart. You can use PVC I suppose but something flat may be better. Then you can strap you 3rd grip vertical.

How about forget the "mounting" hardware and simply run a bungee or strap down the top of the rod holder tube and out the bottom? Strap the holder tube directly.

I've been thinking about this idea for a while. If all you need is an upright pipe to hold a rod upright, then the pipe itself and a strap is all you need. Cut two slots about an inch apart in the middle of the pipe and run a strap into the top slot, out the bottom slot and then around your tube. Cinch it down and presto, job done, no plumbing needed.

Great ideas all! I may just try out Bob's idea with cutting slots in some pvc I have laying around. And the bungee/strap trick with the 3rd grip itself. Will have to inflate the tube and mess around a bit - currently the garage is a mess right now as we are in the middle of a cabinet repaint with half the cabinet doors laying out, which I haven't even started (and it's been over a week!)
