Harbor Tournament Results

I will start it out since I got out and home first. It was great fishing with everyone again, and meeting all the new guys as well. I beat the skunk with a nice yellow fine crocker, Waxon has that picture.
Other then that the only other thing bitting for me was the boat dock, I hooked everyone I got near.

wtg jeff on skunk buster, too bad on hooking every dock possible. I wish i could have made it out with everyone today. Hopefully I will be able to make the next one

Hope you can make the next one it was fun out there I had to leave early but glad I made it non the less. I cannot wait to see what everyone less has to say and post.

I wanted to thank everyone who fished the tournament for making a newbie fill right at home! Thanks to Jeff for a great forum and Dano for putting on a fun tourney with a bunch of great guys, also to Big Hammer and O.T.S Custom Baits For sponsoring the Flout Tube Forum tournament, can't wait to use both on my next fishing outing!

So it sounds like Vagabond won, way to go so how big was the spot. n2deepfsw glad you made it out it was nice talking to you, hope to see you and your friend Aquaholic out on the water again soon.

This was alotta fun!! I haven`t had so much fun since....hmm Yesterday!! haha that i went tubing naples island. So glad to meet all of you guys, your`re very cool dudes! What a great day, no skunks and no boating accidents =).
Was cool meeting you new guys and Leaky's son and thanks to all the sponosors who hooked us up. And a special thanks to CPT Kirk for that cool lanyard he donated as a prize, that thing has everything you could need on it for a day of fishing... makes losing my scale a bit less painful.

I did end up winning the pot with a 1.10 lbs spottie, the only fish I landed all day but it cost me my scale. Little guy had one good thrash left in him and took my new scale right out of my hand and into the harbor still clamped onto his lip... hope he managed to get free some how. Thanks for the only picture I'll have of my precious scale Ed!

Looks like next stop we are looking at Marina Del Rey harbor. We should just do it Endless Summer style, buy a retired bus and float tube every harbor in the USA.

That was the funnest thing the hole day I could not at first laugh but the look on brains face and then he smiled and I started laughing oh oh oh my scale oh my too much fun between that nasty pole tom caught, jeff shunk strike broken ,the new members,the potties that got away with the scale,seals on the boats, meeting Leigh son, me on the dink of the day, oh my god the best dam burger in the world at that moment, the sponsors big hammer and otc, and.the weather was good too, and the big smile on danos face when he finally caught him a fish what great day

I'm trying! I've been working so much! When I think about going tubing with you guys, it makes me tired LOL.

Does anyone have an insight to the Avalon harbor?

Its pretty open harbor. A lot of current involved there I would imagine.

Dude that would be so cool get it going guys as always play it safe but sounds like great time.

Most of the area in avalon is protected and can't be fished. I think you have to go 10 min up from the casino before you can fish and in the chop against the cliff walls probably isn't the best place to tube.

I did do some spear fishing and camped back at two harbors a few years ago fishing bird rock. The current isn't that bad and there is a lot of structure around the rocks that hold good bass, goats and yellows from time to time. I know they have a harbor in Pin rock on the back side, but never fished it. I heard that it can get pretty ruff from time to time.

We did tent camping and it was only around $50 a night per tent and would sleep 3-4.

All of you obviously had fun out there yesterday, regardless of how many fish you caught. I hope I can join you on one of your upcoming events, since I really do love float tube fishing. In the pictures posted by Jeffcpr, I see a steep sandy beach where some of you are launching your tubes. I'm trying to figure out where that is, since I don't recognize it.

By the way, I was fishing in Newport Harbor yesterday, but was in a boat with my son and grandson, and we did have a great time. We launched at Newport Dunes and fished the main channel all the way to the Coast Guard dock. But we didn't see any tubers, and were wondering where you guys were.

We launched and fishing lido island area.

Had a great on my first float tubbing adventure. I briefly kicked around my new tube 2 months ago before I bought it last week and it felt great finally getting on the water. I knew it was going to be a good trip fish or not. I actually managed to get a nice almost legal halibut fish within 10 minutes of launching thanks to Kirk getting me setup and squared away on gear. I picked up several small shrimp lures, spinner baits and random things to try out, but it was a nice little 3" fake bluegill on a small jig head I slowly retrieved over the sand areas that worked.

We then kicked over to the docks and tried a few different baits and worked them hard, but didn't land any fish. Kirk did have a few good bites, but that was it. Crossed over and fished between the boats. I landed a couple of small sand bass and Kirk hooked up with something pretty big under an old platform, but less than a minute later the line snapped. He landed a few more sand bass and then a Halibut before we kicked back to the launch point.

Looking forward to getting out at NPH again, (possibly Sunday) since I'm less than 5 min away. Next time you guys want to fish NPH let me know. We can finish the day and meet up at my place afterward and have few cold ones and some good Q. Ohh did I mention i'm also a certified KCBS judge and cook??
