Hi All,

I have a chance between Cumberland float tube and CA Clark Fork pontoon.

I can't really decide between the two. I fly fish so I like that the pontoon would sit higher.

But lime others, the weight and size are bigger the float tube. Has or does any one else fly fish from CA Pontoon?

Thank you and have a good day

It's been years since I have fly fished from my tube. But when I did I had no issues. No the bigger issue i see is the size and portability. The Cumberland is much better if your concerned about these factors. But sitting higher is a great advantage as well. Honestly either way you go you will enjoy hoe that helps a little.

Thank you, it is a hard choice. Knowing there was not many issues with fly fishing from the tube helps

Yes, I have fly fished quite a bit in the sierras from my tube without much problems. Really, if your going to use an indicator, not much casting involved. Even to strip in streamers, you really only need to do a roll cast then a few kicks and your set.

But, I only have 2 tubes and a kayak that I don't use anymore. Never fished from a pontoon, but I have looked at them a few times. But, I do like the portability of my tubes and don't really travel that far in them when I fish.

I have fly fished from my tubes, but not my pontoon. From the tube often times I wished I had a longer rod to cast further because I was about waist high compared to standing. On the other hand I had no issues sneaking up a little closer to hit the intended target.  On the pontoon I could see issues with the metal frame grabbing onto the line. There are a lot of spot out to your feet that could be problematic with fly line.

Here are some pics of the mess I drag along. (no fly gear)

Also, no chance of me carrying this set up anywhere.

I have fly fished from a pontoon before. It is nice to be higher and you can still use kick-fins to paddle around. I mainly fly fish out of float tubes only because access to the water takes a bit of hiking from the parking lot were I go. Pontoons are also nice and stable. Good luck with your decision.
