Fish of course!
Some of my most prolific days ever were in the midst of a down pour!
Essentially we had a number of locations where we knew rain runoff would enter a larger body of water. For instance, one of my favorites was a culvert that drained from a golf course into a small private lake. When it rained, the earth worms would crawl, get swept into the culvert and down to the lake. The bass and catfish used to stack up in front of this spot like cordwood! Fishing in front of this thing was crazy at times.
Get the idea? So here are a few of my favorite inlet fishing spots to fish during (or just after) a downpour.
Sierra cove inlet at Irvine Lake - Gigantic trout
The creek inlet at Laguna Niguel lake - trout
The any of the creek inlets at Lake Casitas - HUGE bass and catfish
The Yellow Bar Piru creek inlet at Lake Pyramid - Stripers
The Piru creek inlet to Piru lake - bass trout and catfish
The backs of almost every canyon cove at Castaic - bass, stripers
It works for the coastal waters as well....
The Malibu Creek inlet - steelhead (illegal now)
The Topanga Creek Inlet - steelhead (illegal)
The Ventura and Santa Clara river inlets - stripers
....virtually anywhere that runoff comes into a standing body of water. Fish love moving water. Betcha there are a few around your area?
