Has anyone tried releasing the air in the bladders of both chambers or been in a situation where you loose air to both chambers and stay a float by the seat? I do wear a type V vest when I go out but actually having to use it in the event something goes wrong does scare me a little. Shocked I have thought about trying this in a pool just to see.

We would be interested to see you results from that test. I think it will work in a pinch but not something to rely on. Good to hear you wear your vest we definitely need to stay safe.

Yes, I am quite sure that the Cumberland seat can be used as a float. Of course, your entire body will be in the water but your head will be above the waterline, allowing you to not drown. You won't be sitting on it and out of the water, obviously. That is one advantage of a foam seat - nothing to puncture.

Best way to see if your seat will hold hold your head above water would be to test it. I personally wouldn't rely on it to save my life as it wasnt designed for that. I read somewhere where a guys tube popped on submerged lumber and it didnt help at all. He said he was lucky he stayed near shore but i cant find that article now

Test Tackles, was that popped float tube a Cumberland? I ask as not all float tubes have a large thick foam seat...

That I cannot tell u. It just explained how his waders quickly filled up and his foam seat was useless as a flotation device
