Hey guys,
Long time no see! Or message.
I have been working almost nonstop for the last 2 years. The Biz is sooo busy right now. Had a short hiatus during the peak of the covid in LA but after only a month or two we were back at it.
The last time i spoke with you all i was on my way to Japan for a job. (Pre-covid) But unfortunately the covid struck while I was there and I did not get a chance to fish because of weather and restrictions. But boy oh boy did i enjoy the food and the tackle stores there!
The other thing i was preparing to launch into was that I had decided to buy a kayak and get back into fishing with a new interest since my heart attack. Well after i was sent home from Japan because of the threat of the covid…… I pulled the trigger.
Now i was a tried and true toober, then tooner. I had tried the yak a few times in the past and just wasn’t very impressed. Then i had my coronary had a few life changing self discussions and became a born again non boater fisherman. I watched the YouTube and started to turn toward the yak. The fishing kayaks are now THE hottest thing going for non boaters and the kayak gear improvements are coming in leaps and bounds! There are many companies producing new and improved fishing kayaks with pedal drives of all sorts, and with the inclusion of electric motors lighter, smaller, stronger batteries and Star Trek electronics, the kayak clubs, associations, tournaments, and prizes, are growing incredibly every year. They are unquestionably part of the future of sport fishing!
I read and watched (YouTube) and researched and did my due diligence and thought, “this is likely to be one of my last BIG ticket fishing purchases,” so I went for it!
I bought a 2021 Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12’ / 360 drive….blue.
I bought a MotorGuide Xi3 12v/55lb thrust front mount remote wireless electric trolling motor.
I bought a Lowrance Elite FS 7” meter
I bought a Miller Tech lithium iron phosphate 12v/75ah battery
… and I bought an unbelievable amount of other crap that goes along with it all…. Battery charger, PFDs, running lights, nav lights, emergency signals, more batteries, anchors, paddles, launching carts, ropes …..

Anyway…. Im in the game. I am in Baltimore right now until mid August then i return to LA to do DAVE season III until Christmas. I hope to put the yak to good use then. Meanwhile I figured I would let you guys know how this yak thing has been.

I have spent a LOT of money. I have fished a few times here in Southern California in my Hobie and a few times (6) in a Nucanoe in the Black Water Nature Preserve in Maryland with a fishing guide.

…I have much to say about kayak fishing, pros and cons..
I have to go now but i will be messaging soon about my latest
Kayak experiences and my most recent adventures with a “Dragon”!!

gotta go. gooch

Well, I hope the kayak works for you.
I had the Hobie with the Mirage drive and it was too much work to get in and out of the water for me.
So today I have three Cumberlands.

I went from float tube, to Kayak and then back to float tubing.
Much happiness and PB’s to ya!! 👍🏼

Yup
These are not easy to get to the water,
I have a set of wheels that plug into the scupper holes, and then i wheel the boat around like a wheelbarrow. Not easy to install or remove and steering is a pain. Perhaps one of the most annoying processes in yacking….

gooch
